First week home

Build rhythm before perfection.

A puppy does not need a packed training schedule. A few predictable patterns make everything else easier.

Toilet timing

Take your puppy out after waking, meals, drinks and active play. Track patterns before assuming accidents are random.

Sleep and settling

Protect naps and give your puppy a predictable place to rest. Overtired puppies often look like badly behaved puppies.

Handling

Briefly touch paws, ears, face and coat so grooming does not begin as a completely unfamiliar event.

Alone-time

Practise tiny ordinary separations before you need your puppy to cope with a long absence.

Food and water

Keep the routine predictable enough that you can notice appetite, thirst and toilet changes.

One skill at a time

Short reward-based sessions work better than trying to teach every cue in the first week.
